The rank is an OR-2 rank, along with leading aircraftman in the NATO rank code. Senior aircraftman ranks between leading aircraftman and corporal (lance corporal in the RAF regiment and senior aircraftman (technical) in technical trades). A senior aircraftman's insignia is a three-bladed propeller, with each of the propellers being equally spaced.

Senior aircraftman, a rank which is non-supervisory, was created on January 1st, 1951, at the time when leading aircraftman became an official rank.

Usage[]

Senior aircraftman is one of the four aircraftman ranks of the RAF. The others are aircraftman, leading aircraftman and senior aircraftman (technician).

Senior aircraftman is a non-supervisory rank and the third lowest rank in the RAF. It is used in technical trades of the RAF, the RAF regiment and the RAF in general.
